Why the Texans should draft a QB

1st and Goal at the 5 yard line. The Quarterback hikes the ball, drops back and throws it into the endzone. TOUCHDOWN!

Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? For the bottom dwellers in the NFL this is something you hardly ever hear sports caster announce. Why? Because they just do not have that type of quarterback to throw that kind of pass into the endzone.

The Houston Texans this year have the No.1 Overall pick and they should take a quarterback. Whether it is Teddy Bridgewater Johnny Manziel, or Blake Bortles, the Texans cannot pass up on a quarterback. Back in the 2006 draft when the Texans also had the no.1 pick, they passed on a Qb and with good reason. The top two projected QBs were supposed to have been the next best thing in Matt Leinhart and Vince Young. Hell, Reggie Bush looked like a sure hall of famer by many and was supposed to go to the Texans. But they passed on all of them for Mario Williams from North Carolina State.

In this year's draft, however, the Texans cannot afford to take the No.1 rated player by many, Jadeveon Clowney. Here is why: they have the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year in JJ Watt anchoring their defensive line already. Their linebacking corps is returning Brian Cushing and they are looking for a bounce back year from Jonathan Joseph. They have playmakers on defense. Flip to the offense, you have an aging WR in Andre Johnson, an injury prone rb in Arian Foster, Ben Tate left for the Browns and no proven backup to Andre at the WR position. It is time for the franchise to step up and bring in a new face of the franchise on offense. Bring in a Manziel or Bridgewater or Bortles and let him carry this team. The Colts, Redskins, Seahawks, and Bengals (drafted rookie qb and that rookie lead team to playoffs for each respective team) have seen what rookie QBs can do for them and this year, it could very well be the Texans.

With the success rate of QBs coming out of college early in the drafts these past drafts, I would not hesitate to draft one if I'm the Texans. If they messed up and Clowney becomes a HOF? Nothing you can do but tip your cap to a guy like him but as a franchise, the right decision is to take a QB with the first pick.
